Fresno State had a fragmented set of IT groups with no overarching vision or plan to use technology to improve graduation rates and facilitate student success. The university retained Next Generation’s Phil Goldstein and Mary Beth Baker to lead a participative process to develop a technology strategy and to propose an effective organizational structure to anticipate and meet future technology needs. As a result, the university hired its first Chief Information Officer, consolidated IT organizations, expanded academic technology support services, and established a decision-making model for IT that is incorporated into institutional shared governance.
